VW BEETLE - a big thank you!
As a newly married 1970’s couple and somewhat cash-strapped we borrowed a friends VW camper van for a cheap holiday, with the result we were both immediately hooked on both Volkswagens and the freedom of a camper van. As a near life-long VW enthusiast, I have always had the wish to own a yellow VW Beetle, but somehow the opportunity never quite happened as I had hoped for. Work, family and all sorts of things seemed to get in the way; even with the passing of years, my adult son bought a yellow Beetle and repainted it green! With the opportunity of retirement, came the possibility of spending more time looking for that very special yellow VW Beetle with a list, a long list in fact, of must have extras. Searching for hours through the usual places, dealers, magazines, and the internet produced quite a few reasonably close matches but just not enough ticks on my list and too near to be a disappointment. Near to giving up searching, my family encouraged me on a weekend visit to keep trying. Going to the internet for what I fully expected would another fruitless search, up came a yellow Beetle at Furness Park in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria in one of those jaw-dropping moments of near disbelief. It was exactly what I was looking for!
A Monday morning phone call to Glen at Furness Park confirmed it fulfilled just what I was looking for on my list. More than that, this was indeed a very special vehicle, low mileage for the age and in pristine condition both inside and out that would convince most that it had just been delivered brand new from the factory. I had absolutely no hesitation on paying the deposit there and then, and arranged to visit Furness Park later the same week.
Alan greeted me on arrival at the west Cumbria showroom, and I was made very welcome indeed. In fact I didn’t have to introduce myself, as I picked out the yellow Beetle among the large selection of prestige vehicles with a smile just as wide as the saying of the Cheshire cat! The VW was in absolutely fantastic immaculate condition, and the test drive confirmed everything exactly as expected.
The journey of some 230 miles on a Friday afternoon back to my home in Lincolnshire took twice as long as it would normally. Despite the endless stop starts on the motorways, I can say that the smile never once disappeared despite the motorway misery endured by other motorists.
I would like to thank Alan, Glenn and all the staff at Furness Park for not only providing the vehicle of my dreams and also and most especially for the excellent service offered throughout. The Beetle really is the car of my dreams!
Thank-you so very much.
With kind regards
